CIA pretende contratar bibliotecários

Agora que já sabe que a CIA tem um Centro de Open Source dedicado a analisar informação das redes sociais, deve ter ficado a pensar que características devem ter esses bibliotecários!

Para os profissionais de informação interessados, o Centro Open Source da CIA está a contratar bibliotecários:
"The Open Source Center is seeking Librarian applicants with a passion for innovation, customer service, and library science expertise to join the CIA Library.

• Work Schedule: Full Time; Salary: $48,682 – $95,026; Location: Washington, DC metropolitan area".

O diretor do centro, Doug Naquin, afirma que os analistas de maior sucesso têm um perfil semelhante à heroína do romance policial "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" (Os Homens que Odeiam as Mulheres, o primeiro livro da série Millennium de Stieg Larsson). Estes bibliotecários são definidos como um irreverente e peculiar hacker de computador que "sabe como encontrar coisas que outras pessoas nem sabem que existe". Aqueles com um grau de mestrado em biblioteconomia e vários idiomas, especialmente aqueles que cresceram falando outra língua, tornam-se mais facilmente poderosos técnicos destas fontes abertas.

E agora especialmente para as pessoas que desvalorizam o trabalho dos bibliotecários na sociedade atual, seria bom que fizessem uma análise do que se pede aqui a um bibliotecário do ponto de vista técnico (esquecendo para o efeito o aspeto ligado à utilização desse trabalho em atividades de espionagem):

• Our Librarians play an essential role in the intelligence mission by acquiring, researching, and making accessible the most critical information resources that meet CIA and Intelligence Community information requirements.
• Librarians also have opportunities to serve as embedded, or forward deployed, information experts in CIA offices and select Intelligence Community agencies.
• The CIA Library maintains strong relationships with the Library of Congress, other Intelligence Community libraries, select academic institutions, and other public and private sector institutions and information resource providers.
• Applicants interested in a Librarian position must have strong skills in at least one area of the library science profession: research, training, briefing, technical services (acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, special collections) or customer services.
• Minimum requirements include a Master's degree in Library or Information Science, excellent communications skills, strong critical thinking/analytic skills, documented knowledge and/or job experience in at least one facet of library science.
• Applicants with reading and research ability in a foreign language are desired.

Não deixa igualmente de ser um exercício curioso pensar se os atuais bibliotecários têm capacidades e formação para exercerem estas funções!
